I have been cutting lumber for over 3 years and have personally cut to size and ripped thousands of boards. Here are some of the saws I use (or have used).
My Table Saw Journey I use my table saw mostly for ripping 1.5 to 2-inch wide hardwood boards. Over the years, I have worked with several different brands, including Ryobi, Hercules, and DeWalt.

The Good: This was the saw I learned on. It is very affordable for a beginner and has impressive power for a budget-friendly model.

The Bad: The fence system can be finicky. You have to be careful with your adjustments to ensure cuts are square.

The Verdict: If you are just starting out and watching your budget, this is a great saw to learn the ropes with before upgrading.
2. DeWalt 8 1/4" Jobsite Table Saw (DWE7485)

The Good: The fence! DeWalt’s Rack and Pinion fence is smooth, lockable, and dead-on accurate right out of the box. Unlike my previous saw, I don't have to double-check the measurement every single time I move the fence.

The Bad: Because it uses an 8 1/4" blade, the maximum cut depth is a bit less than a 10" saw. Also, this model generally does not accept a dado stack, which is something to keep in mind as you advance.

The Verdict: If you are tired of fighting with a cheap fence and want professional-grade accuracy in a portable package, this is the saw to buy.

3. The "Almost" Great: Hercules 10-Inch

The Good: I was initially impressed with this saw. The fence system is excellent (very similar to the DeWalt style), and the power was great for ripping hardwoods.

The Bad: Durability. Despite the strong start, I ran into mechanical problems after only six months of use.

The Verdict: It feels like a professional saw when you first use it, but in my experience, it didn't hold up to daily shop use long-term.

4. The Workhorse: DeWalt 10-Inch (DWE7491RS)

After the mechanical failure with the Hercules, I decided to invest in the DeWalt 10-inch, and it has been my best performer by far. It cuts incredibly smooth, is easy to use, and comes with an excellent rolling stand that makes it easy to move around the shop. I’ve had it for almost a year now with zero issues.

Why I Love It: It combines the power I need for ripping hardwood with the reliability I was missing in the other saws. The rack-and-pinion fence is dead accurate, and the stand is very stable.

Recommendation: If you want a saw that just works—and keeps working—this is the one to get.
