Hard Maple

Dense and smooth. Ideal for a clean painted or natural finish.

Cedar

Lightweight and naturally rot-resistant. Great for outdoor use.

πŸ”§ Assembly Steps

  1. 1

    Cut to Length

Cut all pieces per the cut list. Label each part with painter's tape β€” especially slats vs. rails.

    Step 1: Cut to Length
  2. 2

    Sand All Faces

Sand all faces β€” 120 grit first, finish with 220. Break all edges lightly.

    Step 2: Sand All Faces
  3. 3

Attach Front & Back Rails to Legs

Fasten front and back rails to legs at 3 heights: 2″ from bottom, ~15″ center, ~28″ top. Use wood glue + 1¼″ pocket screws.

Step 3: Attach Front & Back Rails to Legs
  4. 4

    Attach Side Rails

Connect front and back rails with side rails running front-to-back at each shelf level. Glue and screw into place.

    Step 4: Attach Side Rails
  5. 5

    Lay Shelf Slats

Place 1×2 slats front-to-back across the front and back rails. Space evenly ~¼″ apart across the full 24″ width. Fasten each slat with 1¼″ screws or finish nails.

    Step 5: Lay Shelf Slats
  6. 6

Check for Square & Apply Finish

Use a speed square at each corner. Once confirmed square, apply stain, penetrating oil, or polyurethane β€” 2–3 coats with light sanding between each.

Step 6: Check for Square & Apply Finish
