II. Assembly Details

1. The "Hidden" Frame

Use pocket-hole joinery on the underside of all 2x2 rails. This keeps the exterior face of your cedar clean and free of screw heads, which is the hallmark of a Lumber & Boards professional build.

2. Slat Spacing & Drainage

For both the seat and the table, rain must be able to fall through. Use 1/4" spacers between every slat. This prevents "cupping" and rot.

3. Tabletop Fastening

To keep the tabletop perfectly smooth, drive your 1-5/8" screws from underneath the 2x2 aprons into the 1x3 slats. Pre-drill to prevent splitting.

Lumberjack Tip: Cedar is naturally rot-resistant but it will "silver" in the sun. If you want to keep the warm brown/red tones, apply a UV-rated transparent sealer before the set goes outside.
