Step 1: The Foundation

Ensure posts are perfectly vertical (plumb). If using post bases, drill into concrete with a masonry bit. If burying, use at least 2 bags of high-strength concrete per hole.

Step 2: Beam Installation

Clamp the 2x8 beams to the posts at your desired height (usually 8' clearance). Level across both beams. Secure with two 6" carriage bolts or structural timber screws per post.

Step 3: Rafter Notching

Mark your 2x6 rafters. Cut 1.5" x 3" notches where they will sit on the beams. Space rafters roughly 18" on center. Secure with 4" exterior screws driven at an angle (toenailing).
